Chris Lighty touched so many lives, and his relatives are pushing so that his legacy lives on. When Missy Elliott recalled her former manager, simply said that the work ethic he instilled in all of its artists. "He worked hard for all of us," says Missy, when he appeared on (September 19) episode on Wednesday of "RapFix Live."
"He was just a go-getter," she said. "There is someone that if someone is trying to do Management, A & R, or something, I think you should know who Chris Lighty is."
Mona Scott-Young, a business partner Violator Management Lighty just wants her friend to be remembered for what he did for the culture and business of hip-hop. "I do not think people understand the enormity of what he was and what he contributed," she said after a surprise visit to the exhibition. "His contributions are countless, and I'm still reeling from it. It just still seems surreal to me."
August 30 Lighty was found dead in his Bronx, New York apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. Detectives at the scene point that the wounds were self-inflicted and medical Lighty later ruled the death a suicide officially. There are reports that pointed to a debt to the IRS Lighty and his troublesome marriage as an industry visionary reasons to take my life, but many who knew Lighty downplay its financial woes.
As the founder of Violator Management, Lighty led a career 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes, just to name a few. Scott-Young, who had a lot of recent success with its "Love & Hip Hop" reality TV franchise, do not get into the specifics and the surrounding area Mogul death, but instead he decided to celebrate his life. "Just gusto and desire to live, to live in it any time," she said, before they began to subside. "The idea that he is no longer here is just ..."
"Sad", "RapFix" host Sway Calloway said, helping her finish the sentence.
