Long Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack the dead at age 65.
The band's manager, Bruce Cohn said in a statement that Hossack died of cancer Monday at his home in Dubois, Wyoming, according to AP.
"His family was by his side," said a statement on the site of the band. "Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones. He will be missed very much."
Hossack played with the group from 1971 to 1973 and rejoined in 1987. Its battery can be heard on early successes including Doobies Listen To The Music, China Grove and Blackwater. Stopped playing with the band two years ago, while battling cancer.
"Mike has always been a part of my musical life and the lives of the Doobie Brothers," said Doobie Brothers co-founder of Tom Johnson. "He was an incredible musician."
Hossack, who grew up in New Jersey, and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, is survived by a son and a daughter.
"People always ask me if it is difficult to play with another drummer," Hossack is quoted as saying in his biography on the site of the band. "I say that after playing with up to 12 other drummers at a time in the drum group, this is easy!"
