Top 13 sing Stevie and Whitney 'American Idol'

During the past four years, the boys have dominated American Idol. This year, however, women made a strong case for them on the first night of the final round of this season.

If Jessica Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh were the favorites before, they are now. With all the girls who sing hits of Whitney Houston, Hollie, looking around the world as one of Dusty Springfield today, also gave a complete performance of the whole person I need.

And Skylar Laine was not far behind them, making Broken Hearts Go Where in a nuanced ballad style of Reba McEntire. The three, along with a great performance by Erika Van Pelt on I Believe in You and Me, you could put two early favorites, and Magrane Testone Elise Shannon, in a precarious position entering Thursday's results show, as both struggled to feel comfortable with your song choice.

The boys were more even. I Wish Joshua Ledet in a slot of the gospel, while Jermaine Jones continued to demonstrate that the judges made a mistake it short, which knocks me off my feet one of Barry White meets Jerry Butler feel. Colton Dixon gallant turned up the heat to cover its limitations vocal in recent times, while DeAndre Brackensick showed a different side of his voice hoarse with a reggae version of Master Blaster. Phillip Phillips gave a treatment of the superstition of rock, while Jeremy Rosado and Heejun have both struggled to give their voices ballads they deserved.

The first phase will run a little different than in the past year. The program on Thursday, host Ryan Seacrest will release the boy and the girl who has less votes, and then let the judges choose which one stays and who goes. If the vote goes according to the quality of performance, its decision could be difficult, as it almost certainly will include singers who have grown up with emotion.
