This study suggests that listening to Bruce Springsteen can make you a "racist"

A new study by University of Minnesota, suggested that listening to mainstream rock music can make people, "racists".

Scientists played a lot of different genres of music to 138 students for seven minutes. The students were then said to have been part of the research to work out how the funds should be placed in their school. Then he proposes a number of different ethnic groups to divide the money between, reports the Daily Mail.

Apparently, after listening to mainstream rock music, like Bruce Springsteen, white students preferred other white students for the provision of university funds, more than black and Hispanic students. Meanwhile, white students who had listened to more ethnic populations, including Akon and Gwen Stefani have been more fair to other ethnic groups.

Heather Lamarre, Assistant Professor of Journalism and mass Communication at the University of Minnesota, said the study: "Rock music is generally associated with white Americans, so we believe it signals the white audience to think about their positive cooperation from their own group."

Professor Silvia Knobloch-Westerwick added: "The music has a lot of power to influence our thoughts and actions, more than we often recognize has the power to strengthen our positive biases towards our own group, and sometimes negative prejudices against others.".

After listening to music in the background, without phones or reading as a distraction, participants were asked how their tuition money should be allocated between the centers of African American Studies, Latin American Studies, American Studies and Arabic Studies, Rural Development and Agriculture.

Participants who listened to mainstream rock gave 35% of the money on a white American group, and equal amounts to the other, and those who listened to pop chart divide the money equally.
