Three and a half years after Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew were killed, a man accused of his death is finally before the court.
According to E! Online, Cook County Judge Charles Burns, announced on Thursday (19 January) that the choice of jury trial, William Balfour begin April 9 and that the testimony at the trial scheduled for April 23.
Balfour is the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, Julia, and is suspected of killing Darnell Hudson Donerson, 57, Jason Hudson, 29, and Julian King, 7, 24 October 2008. He was accused by the jury of three murders, kidnapping and burglary and aggravated was acquitted. His lawyers argue that there is no forensic evidence links Balfour to the killings and that he was "comfortable" suspect.
Prosecutors said Balfour was jealous that Julia Hudson met another man and went home to deal with it. His mother, Michele Davis Balfour, said that his son was dating three other women at that time, and that jealousy would not be a problem.
Hudson held the spotlight in the months after the tragedy, as his first public performance singing the national anthem at Super Bowl 2009, and then moving performance of "You pulled me through" on the Grammys. Hudson recently addressed the issue through a series of interviews related to the release of his memoirs, "I Got This."
"I felt like I had to [to]," Hudson said, "Dateline" this month. "I heard the voice of his brother in the head, like, 'Are you ever going to sing?" He always told me: "Come on, Jenny!" If something was discouraged. I could sit and not killed, did you know that us proud. "
Hudson said one of the reasons I was able to go forward is because of the love and support he had from family, friends and strangers. "I was literally love," says Hudson.
