It's Time to Talk That Talk

A few months ago - before "Talk That Talk" has given you another Top 10 album on the Billboard 200, before you performed "We have found Love" and "Princess of China" at the Grammy Awards, from new rumors swirled that they were involved in secret love affair with the past flame Chris Brown, and certainly before yesterday reported the news that Breezy was a guest on the upcoming "birthday cake" Remix - showed up on "Ellen" to discuss is called the sexiest woman alive by Esquire, among others. During the interview, the joint of your feelings on the concept of being a role model and why, lately, is not expected to comply with the albatross of musical fame.

"I used to worry about it much when I realized you really want to send a message is not perfection -. It is individuality," you said in November 2011 at the table. "Being who you really are, knowing who you really are and what more. There is only one of you, just like that".

In the past few weeks, as new rumblings linking to you and Chris Brown became a screaming, I thought about your words, it kept rolling around in my head and trying to understand the key word in his statement, "individuality". Throughout his career, your ability to absorb new look and sound without losing the essential sense of self is nothing amazing, and there is no doubt, become the basis of your longevity. With dancehall princess "Pon De Replay" in the stylish hip-pop diva "Umbrella" to militant provocateur in "Hard" for sex-starved rave maven of "S & M" No one - even Madonna! - He was not able to hit so many success creates in such a short time. It was pretty damn impressive to witness, and even more fun to listen to.

The unique vulnerability of your personality informed his career, and you continue the success of the recently without express yourself as a role model for children. Fallen Immaculately produced ballads such as "California King Bed," the worst nightmare parent's-fetish anthems like "S & M" without batting an eye beautiful. The musicians certainly do not need to worry about who is looking for them when creating their art - some of the best musical of all time, from the Beatles to Nirvana to Kanye West, is morally questionable, but the drugs in his recklessness. You are right in stressing the importance of individuality in music. The problem, of course, is when you try to translate this theory into the public sphere have been unconsciously done by the association with our good friend Mr. Brown.

No matter how many parents tell you not to take their children to your concerts hyper-sexual, or how many times you tell us, "Suck my conceit, lick my persuasion" on the albums, you're a role model, Rihanna. Mostly because they're cool! You are effortlessly cool. You Eddie Winslow, and the rest of us Urkels Steve. When you are shocking, it is not repulsive. When you're dull, it feels fresh. You're a cool kid in school, and perhaps the beginning of the Hot 100, singing the phone book. And this whole Chris Brown thing can determine your career, in the best and the worst possible way.

I do not care about the state of current relations with Breezy, or reports of his presence at his birthday party (happy 24, by the way!) Or how many seconds his voice appears on the "birthday cake" remix. These may be facts and articles. I do know that in three years and nine days of the infamous, violent and extremely disturbing attack Grammy night in 2009, there was never a point where you have publicly declared: "Go Fuck Yourself, Chris Brown, you will never speak to me ". Not in the months after the attack took place, when everything felt raw for all. Not when your fans freaked out when two consecutive on Twitter again last year. And when Us Weekly ran a report that I still had a romantic relationship with him - Brown's camp denied the report, but you and your camp is not. Because it's "fuck yourself" moment never happened, we can only infer that if your current relationship with Brown is even a bit romantic, there is something holding you back from the curse of this guy out of his life forever.

And for me it's not ... most PC attitude to take, especially when millions of vulnerable people are watching your every move, but it's obviously a very personal decision of the public to deal with the situation, not many people can understand (though too many can). If you do not want to call Brown in the press or waste your breath on any of the rumors floating around, who can say that is wrong way to handle things?

But news of the CB dropping by the "birthday cake" remix ... cholera. Three years and nine days later, is officially meant that no matter if the two are "single" or "due" or "it's complicated", a sign of forgiveness has been obtained by Brown. And it's not cool, the whole lot of people.

Listen, could you do this one song from Brown and never work with him again, or go to the album "Pop Watch The Throne" with him. You two can become a couple again and get married in Las Vegas next week. Why not any of these things or all of these things, certainly have the right to do any of those things. In your words: "There is only one man, just like that". Do you, Rihanna!

But, frankly ... you can not do, Rihanna. Not here. Not with Chris Brown. Because like it or not, millions of people paying attention to you, trying to be cool, like you, trying to find love in a hopeless place and wondering if it is good to walk the same dark alley twice. Young girls look at people like you to guide them through circumstances too complicated for them resolve on their own, by giving Chris Brown an inch tolerance, that indirectly encourage others to consider doing the same. "With great power comes great responsibility" is a schmaltzy sentiment, but it fit here - like it or not, you have a different energy level than most of us schmoes because of his pop music superstar, and a different level of responsibility for setting personal life than in your music because of the tabloid infected cultures in which we live is a burden that is not fair to you, or anyone in pop culture, but this one must accept.

If you are still allowing Chris Brown to slide in work or personal life, there will be huge - bloggers are blogging and will create a backlash, but it's probably still rule the Hot 100, and the world will turn. But if you bite the bullet, spend instincts and decide to inspire ... even three years removed from that terrible accident, that "fuck yourself" moment that public banishment of a man who physically attacked you, will continue to resonate with so many people looking for their own bit of strength. Equally important as your voice has become a pop landscape, you have the chance to deliver a message that transcends all the lyric you sing, stand on something that takes much longer than three minutes to feed a piece of radio. We, like you, we all want to keep our individuality shine - to know who we are and just be myself - but in this one case, we have a message to be desired.
