"We want people to open their interest. Can come to us, but end up discovering an action blues or country," says guitarist Kirk Hammett of Metallica's seat memory is filled, and signed posters Aerosmith mixed with pinball machines and fan banners, one of which reads " Metallica: Master. pancakes "
Adds drummer Lars Ulrich: "It's about balance, to make things fresh."
Metallica - which was established in 1981 and sold 100 million albums around the world - will never be accused of playing it safe, between revealing his demons in the document, Some Kind of Monster, or deciding to Lou Reed's backing band on Lulu. Create your own festival, which will be held June 23-24 at the Atlantic City Bader, is just another way to go yet another creative cliff.
"We did festivals all of our career," says guitarist / vocalist James Hetfield. "We wondered what made these people come back year after year, and that's because it had to be somewhere. Maybe we can create something like that."
All four members contributed ideas for the invitation team. Among the two dozen different instruments, are Arctic Monkeys and Modest Mouse. For the arts component of the event, "Kirk and I are in the surf and skate scene, so maybe we'll have the elements," says bassist Robert Trujillo.
"They can play in the same band, but not everyone likes the same things," said Charlie Walker, a partner with gifts for Lollapalooza organizers C3. "It's part of the discovery will be great in Orion."
Atlantic City was chosen because it allows easy access to the European faithful Metallica. The band will headline both nights, performing The Black Album first and second Ride the Lightning.
"We were thinking about doing their own festival for years," Hetfield says. "Metallica is the key for us, and we're going to try all the locks without the fear of making mistakes."
